![]() Doable, and with optics, probably very decent for what I want. Buy a bunch of COB lights on a star/rectangle PCB (skipping the SMD mounting step), mount it on an aluminum plate and solder on all the lead wires. Obviously a lot of work, and probably expensive, custom PCB can't be cost effective at low quantities.Ģ. Buy a ton of SMD LED, design your own board and DIY a reflow oven / big pan with sand to bake it off. These are the main DIY ways, from hard to easyġ. Or you have the mystery Amazon special in any form factor but who knows how much light it emits. I want to light up 2 or 3 80x50 Ikea Hejne / Bror / Omar shelves, thin strips are perfect for that, but the smallest in that form factor are FAR too powerful like the TSL2000. Then you have DIY "quantum boards" and kits, but they also start at 150W and only go up from there, and it isn't even much cheaper. 135/150W is a ton of light which is a waste in my case. Pre-built like Mars Hydro TS600/TS1000 - mostly too bright and too hot. Temperature is 18-24C all year, heated area.In the winter, it is maybe a quarter of this = very bad for peppers. ![]() At 50 lux = 1 umol/s, that's 14.4 mol DLI.
